“Just in case you thought organic gardeners hibernate for the winter think again.

In our case the Apple juice harvest is in and there is a load of apples waiting for juicing. They are all safely tucked up in the milking parlour in trays of each variety. Juice sales are solely from our shop and there are likely to be only a few hundred bottles for sale this year.

The leaves have all been swept from the paths and Halen Môn’s cleaning product has come into its own.

We use only concentrated vinegar for cleaning pipes and once it is finished with there is the question of what to do with it. The answer seems to be use it as moss and weedkiller. It is very effective and goes hand in hand with the slug shrinker I have written about before.

The paths are now clearer and the algae reduced by a large amount- a brilliant use of a waste product.

Christmas is coming and those pickled walnuts are maturing nicely. Can’t wait to try them with some local ham from Traed Mochyn.

A quick digression about our farmers market here because it is from there we have been really getting some great local food- local ham and bacon has proved a real hit with us. We have also had David Livingstone’s lobsters as I can’t catch any despite years of breeding baby ones at the Sea Zoo, Brians Welsh beef, Hootons Home grown beetroots and local Goats cheese.

One of our new products is sustainable, hardwood, firewood: ash, oak sycamore and cherry which has been properly air dried and comes in a nice bundle as the perfect Christmas present. It comes complete with a sprig of festive holly and its own label saying ‘with warmest wishes’. We could put it in the web shop but the carriage cost of £7.00 is greater than the selling cost of £5.00. But if you really want a Christmas that is warm there is little to beat a real log fire and of course some Halen Môn . Our organic celery sea salt was called Magic Dust in the New York Times yesterday and you can read more about this on another page of the web site under ‘media’.

Do just contact us if you can’t visit. Happy Christmas and good digging. ”
